Students from Turin, Padua, Naples and Bologna arrested

21 Italian students from the universities of Turin, Padua, Naples and Bologna have been arrested, 15 are already in prison and 6 are under house arrest. The students were involved in a protest massive protest against the G8 University Summit in May, but have only just been arrested. Two social centers and several houses have been raided and searched in Turin, Padua and Naples by police. Over 10 000 students were protesting in May against the meeting which claimed to focus on the problems people and the planet are facing and the ‘neutral and objective’ character of the knowledge produced by universities. As one of the main forces behind privatization and control or resources, the G8 has no credibility in this field. Students from a group called The Anomalous Wave were among others who sought to create alternative ideas and protest against the summit.

To protest against their arrest sign the petition.
