Cambridge and arms investement

Cambridge Gaza Solidarity have seen their own open letter to the university and the university’s response put up on the University website. The Uni’s response is saddening - they used the same old tired excuses for inaction that universities are so fond of using - hiding behind their ‘charitable status’ and claims that ‘investments are indirectly invested’.
As far as I can see they have now endorsed a pre-written statement by Universities UK, said the students can organise their own humanitarian fund raising and so far haven’t moved to penalize any of the occupiers. It’s certainly better than nothing but it does show what a long way we have to go before universities develop a moral conscious of any kind.
One good thing we can do is to publicise what sort of things universities say when they refuse to help with humanitarian causes espoused by students and keep exposing the fact that they do invest in the arms trade and whether it is indirect investment is irrelevant.

Meanwhile Alan Simpson MP for Nottingham South spoke today at Nottingham about his own experiences of visiting Gaza and expressed solidarity with the occupiers.
